Important: confirming your participation

Several days before the tournament we will ask you to confirm your participation. You can do this from 8:00 on Wednesday 24 June. You will receive an email about this on the morning of 24 June.

It is important that you confirm your participation: only then will you be included in the pairings for the first round on Friday morning. Even if you have a bye in round 1, you must confirm your participation before the start of the tournament. There is no on-site registration at the venue!

If you have not received an email by 12:00 on Wednesday 24 June, please check your spam folder. If you can’t find the email there either, you can request a link via this page by entering the email address you used for your registration. Alternatively, you can send an email to info@haarlemchess.nl.

Are you registering on or after 24 June? If so, you do not need to confirm your participation and you will be paired automatically, provided you have paid the participation fee. It is not possible to pay at the venue.

The pairings for round 1 will be published on the website no later than 9:00 on Friday 26 June.

It’s going to be very warm

We are expecting very warm weather, especially on Friday. The good news is that the playing venue is well air-conditioned, so we hope to be able to play in comfortable conditions. Please still take the heat into account and make sure you drink enough.

Changing your absence

If you cannot or do not want to play all six rounds, you can opt out of those rounds online. You can do this prior to the tournament by requesting a link on the Manage registration page. In the first four rounds you can receive a maximum of two half-points for being absent. In rounds 5 and 6 you will receive no points if you are absent.

You can change your absence as often as you like until Thursday 25 June, 23:59. If you wish to change your absence during the tournament, this is only possible via the tournament organisers or by sending an email to info@haarlemchess.nl. Absence for round 2 must be reported before the start of round 1, absence for round 3 before round 2, and so on.

Getting there

On the Playing venue page you will find more information about how to get there. The venue is located close to Overveen railway station. For participants arriving by car, parking is free.

Accommodation

For our first edition, we are unfortunately not able to offer accommodation packages with local hotels. However, as the venue is easily accessible, you can get there quickly from any accommodation in Haarlem, Overveen or Zandvoort – or even, for instance, from Amsterdam or Leiden.

Playing hall and analysis room

The games will take place in rooms K2 and L2 on the second floor. There are lifts on either side.

After your game has finished, you can analyse in the analysis room next to the Coco Café. Please do not take any material from the playing hall with you.

Smoking ban

Smoking is prohibited on the entire Inholland Haarlem grounds. This means that smoking is not permitted outdoors on campus either; you may only smoke outside the Inholland premises. In practice, this means that there is a complete smoking ban while your game is in progress.

Free coffee and tea (bring your own cup!)

All participants can enjoy free coffee and tea throughout the weekend. Please bring your own cup or mug, though! Due to the European Single Use Plastic regulation, disposable cups may not be used at educational institutions in the Netherlands. Forgot your cup? Then you can buy a reusable cup with your first coffee at the Coco Café in Inholland.

Contact during the tournament

For round withdrawals or questions about pairings, you can contact us via info@haarlemchess.nl.

(Only) in case of emergencies you can contact Koos Stolk by phone on +31 6 5168 7014.

During the rounds, photos will be taken, some of which will be published on this website. If you do not wish to appear in the photos yourself, you must inform the organisers of this in advance.
